What is the "Serving Tour"? How Does it Work?
About 6 months ago Pastor John, Hanna, and myself were sitting at a Chik-Fil-A on a Tuesday morning for our weekly Pastor’s Meeting.
Each week we gathered to share our “highs” and “lows” and we would naturally encourage and pray for one another. These Tuesday mornings became very important because we realized the need for us to regularly spend time with each other in person. Pastoring can be tough. And communication between our ministries was/is vital for the overall health of our ministries.
We were discussing the need for more THC members to be serving in a variety of ministries.
On this particular day, I asked them, “What are some ways that can help address this problem?”
The ensuing conversation led to what we now call the “Serving Tour”.
The heart of the Serving Tour is really for THC members to take ownership of the serving needs of this church so that we can see our church “built up” for Christ.
Please read the Serving Tour form below so that you can understand what the Serving Tour is:
What is the “Serving Tour”?
SERVING TOUR
Now that you have become a church member, you have formally joined The Home Church. This is your “home” now. You are taking steps to becoming invested in THC.
The Serving Tour was an idea put together by the Education Dept. (Elementary & Youth Pastor) as well as Pastor Mitchell to accomplish the following purposes:
1. Show new members various ministries so they can seek where they should serve.
2. Show new members the importance of the relationship between Beautiful Church & THC.
How to Use this Form
Becoming a member means taking intentional steps towards serving THC. It will be your job to email the following Ministry Overseers and schedule a time for you to “sit and observe” that ministry.
Do not ask Pastor Mitchell or Kristin to schedule for you. It will be your job to contact the overseer. Once you attend the ministry, give the sheet of paper to the Overseer so they can sign off.
Once you have all 4 signatures, return the paper to Kristin Choi so we can log, and Pastor Mitchell will follow up with you to discuss your serving experience as well as help you find a Ministry Team to join.
* Ask the ministry overseer beforehand, what they would like you to do on the day of your observation/service. (Some ministries may be strictly observational while others involve you to do something).
* Make sure to come on time. If you are late, reschedule another time with the Overseer.
Serving Tour Process
1. Take “vows” before congregation as new covenanted member.
2. Visit & have all overseers sign off and give to Kristin Choi.
3. Expect follow up with Pastor Mitchell to discuss experience and find a serving team.
4. Serve with joy!
A Final Word
Now that you are a member, your attitude needs to adjust from being a consumer to a contributor. Come to church not to be served, but to serve. Take ownership. Come to church “with a shovel in hand”. Let’s work together for King Jesus. Serving with joy. Sacrificing for a purpose. May our service be an act of love and worship for Jesus.
Love,
Your Pastor
