Thoughts Before Our Membership Meeting
This upcoming Sunday, December 16, we will have our final membership meeting of the year. Here are some quick thoughts I’d like for you to consider:
1. This is a Time of Honesty –
I plan on being honest with you about some things on my heart. There are few opportunities, like this, for me to speak honestly to you. Sundays are difficult because we have non-members and VIPs there. But this is a time for us to meet and discuss as a family. The growth of our church requires honest dialogue so we can address issues.
Likewise, you currently have an opportunity to share your honest concerns to the leadership of this church. Last week I sent an email to you explaining that this week is the time for you to email me any concerns/questions you may have about the church.
To be respectful of everyone’s time, there may not be a chance for you to ask your question at the member’s meeting. But you have a few more days to email me. I will do my best to address all email questions that are sent to me this Sunday night.
2. Things Might Not Go Your Way –
You will have a chance to vote on 3 things at this meeting: 2019 proposed budget, the future of the cleaning ministry, and a proposed Bible-reading plan. If something doesn’t go the way you voted – do not be upset.
Getting the consensus of the majority on issues is a wise approach. It’s a way for us to see how ready we, as a church, are for new initiatives. Don’t throw a fit if something doesn’t go your way. Pray.
3. Church Membership is like a Marriage –
A veteran Pastor told me last week that the relationship between the Pastor and the members is like a marriage. And if that’s the case, we’ve only been married for 2.5 years. It’s easy to talk past each other in communication. It’s easy to be frustrated with one another. As we spend more time together, we are able to know each other’s hearts better.
But like marriage, church membership is about commitment to one another for the sake of seeing The Home Church becoming a healthy, unified, church that is making disciples for the glory of Jesus.
And like marriage, we will need to be gracious to one another.
Looking forward to spending time with you this Sunday for corporate worship and for this church member’s meeting! I think you will be encouraged by our growth in 2018. It’s an honor to serve King Jesus as your Pastor.
Romans 15:5-6
“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
